For years I lost myself trying to be what everyone else needed. I shrank, I people-pleased, and I forgot who I actually was underneath it all.

I remember what it felt like to need someone safe to sit with me while I found my way back.
When I was 20, I was cheated on after being in a 6 year relationship and living with him and his family. Out of the blue I was asked to leave.
I remember driving down the road to my new flat, phoning my parents, feeling totally heart broken and slipping into a depression stage. My Dad told me to take it as a positive — and as weird as it may sound, to think to myself, Thank You for the heart break, and Thank You to any bullies I came across. Because saying thank you was what made me into a more courageous and resilient person. 💛
It also proved exactly who I shouldn't keep in my circle — people who don't add value, positivity or happiness to my life.
When I turned 40, my mum took the opportunity to remind me that I needed to evaluate my life for what I was grateful and appreciative of already — because I kept hitting really low points where I nearly fell back into depression. She was able to remind me to be thankful and have gratitude towards everything I have already achieved, so I didn't forget them, to give me an emotional and mental boost which was much needed.
